Jun Shimada, a nineteen year-old pianist from Tokyo, has been studying with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone since 2017 and graduated from Juilliard Pre-College in New York in 2024. Jun was a young artist of Artemisia Akademie in NYC, a recipient of the US Chopin Foundation, a fellow of the Japan-US Friendship Commission’s Exchange Friendship Program in the Arts, and a recipient of grants from Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
Jun has been recognized at many competitions. He became the winner of Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition in 2018 and 2023, and Juilliard Pre-College Nordmann and Bachauer Piano Competition, awarded Nordmann Prize, securing a full tuition scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year. As the winner of the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition, he performed Rachmaninoff’s The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43 with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra conducted by Maestro Adam Glaser in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in 2024. Jun won 1st prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT in 2023, 2nd prize at the Philadelphia International Music Festival Concerto Competition in 2023, the gold medal at the Manhattan International Piano Competition for Young Artists in 2022, 2nd prize at the Chicago International Music Competition for Young Artists in 2021, and 1st prize at the Princeton Steinway Society Competition in 2018, for which he was featured on WWFM.
Jun has participated in the various music festivals, such as the International Summer Academy at Mozarteum, Aspen Music Festival, Piano Academy Eppan, the Chicago International Music Festival, and PianoTexas. He has been honored to perform for many distinguished musicians including Yoheved Kaplinsky, Arie Vardi, Mikhail Voskresensky, Dang Thai Son, Akiko Ebi, Jerome Lowenthal, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Eric Lu.
