Jerome Kuderna has long been active in the standard as well as newer repertoire. He has appeared under the auspices of the Group for Contemporary Music, The American Society of University Composers, The New Jersey Composer’s Guild, The Los Angeles SCREAM Festival, Earplay, Composers Inc. and Cal Performances. Among the composers whose works he has premiered (many of which were written for him) are Milton Babbitt, Claudio Spies, John Selleck, Robert Helps, Ross Bauer, Daniel Brewbaker, Richard Swift, Edwin Dugger, Phillipe Manoury, Herb Bielwa, Ann Callaway and Kurt Erickson. He has recorded Babbitt’s Phonemena for Soprano and Piano (with Lynne Webber) for the New World Records historic anthology of American Music series.

Kuderna has taught at the University of Louisville and Princeton University, and appeared as soloist with the Berkeley Symphony under Kent Nagano and George Thomson, in works by Brewbaker and Ustvolskaya, as well as Elliott Carter’s monumental Piano Concerto (1964-65). “Played by an artist of Mr. Kuderna’s sensitivity, even its most athletic passages were unexpectedly moving, death-defying feats,” wrote Zachary Woolfe in The New York Times about Kuderna’s performance of Carter’s Night Fantasies. He and Jed Distler have performed the four hand Mahler Ninth to critical acclaim in San Francisco, Greenwich and in Brrokleyn’s historic Green-wood Cemetery.
