Bruno Vlahek, piano

Bruno Vlahek (b. 1986, Zagreb) is an internationally acclaimed Croatian pianist and composer, praised for his expressive artistry and versatility. He has performed in over 40 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East, in prestigious venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Franz Liszt Academy (Budapest), and Shanghai Concert Hall.

He graduated as one of the youngest students from the Zagreb Academy of Music before completing advanced studies at the Lausanne Conservatory, Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, where he studied with Dmitri Bashkirov.

As a pianist, he has received numerous awards including first prizes at the Ricard Viñes and Paris Scriabin competitions, as well as distinctions from the Yamaha Foundation and Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain. His performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio Suisse Romande, and national broadcasters across Europe.

Also a prolific composer, Vlahek has written more than 60 works ranging from orchestral and chamber music to solo and choral pieces, performed on five continents. His compositions have earned accolades such as the Porin and Stjepan Šulek awards. His discography includes recordings of Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux and Scarlatti sonatas.

He regularly performs in duo with his wife, pianist Dubravka Vukalović, as the D&B Piano Duo.
